The queenfish (Seriphus politus) is characterized by fleshy lips that become moderately swollen as they grow, featuring six chin pores without a central pit. Its dorsal fin typically has 12 spines, occasionally 11, and 18-20 soft rays. Juveniles display brownish coloration with creamy white blotches, mimicking flatworms, while adults develop a greyish background with large, dark brown spots. The species reaches a maximum length of 72 cm and 7 kg, with a distinctive caudal fin that is deeply forked in juveniles but less so in adults.
