The bluefish, the sole species in the Pomatomidae family, is a marine pelagic fish found globally in temperate and subtropical waters, excluding the northern Pacific. Recognized as tailor in Australia and New Zealand, it is a popular gamefish and food source, ranging from small “snappers” to exceptional sizes of over 40 lb. Bluefish exhibit wide distribution along continental shelves, entering estuaries and brackish waters, with migratory patterns observed along the U.S. East Coast and European Black Sea.
