Bigeye Tuna

The bigeye tuna, a true tuna species in the Thunnus genus, is part of the mackerel family Scombridae and is one of the two species known as ʻahi in Hawaiian. Widely distributed in tropical and temperate oceans, it can reach lengths up to 2.5 m and weights exceeding 180 kg, with the angling record standing at 178 kg. Recognizable by their large heads, eyes, and long pectoral fins, bigeye tuna are absent in the Mediterranean Sea.
